ケネウィックマン遠征の、全行程の軌跡が表示できるようになりました。2012 The Kennewick-Man Expedition から見ることができます。

少々ややこしいのですが、Google Mapの仕様から軌跡が幾つかに分断されていて、下図の矢印で示す記号をクリックしないと次の軌跡が表示されません。いずれ、一度で表示されるように工夫します。

Sorry for some confusing operation of the map, since the GPS track is divided into some fragments according to a Google Map specification, you should click a button indicated by a red arrow in the following figure for to see a next track. In the near future, I am going to make a something for to see those as one large track.

見どころはそのジグザグな軌跡。場所や時間によりころころと気まぐれに、急激に、そして複雑に変化する風や、波や、水の流れに翻弄されながらも、右に左に進路を変え前進し後退しながら、前へ前へ進もうとする様子を窺い知ることができます。

One of the main attractions is a zigzag movement of the GPS track. You can get an idea of some situation that, even though wind, wave and water stream, which were quickly, fitfully and complicatedly varying as time and place were changing, tossed about my kayak, I tried to get advance as changing a course for left or light and going ahead or backward.

動くものといえば、僕と、カヌーが切る波紋と、イルカの滑らかな曲線。

In the early morning, 1 minute past seven.

No wind, no sound.

The indigo blue ocean as smooth as unbroken mirror reflected the pale pink sky at morning dawn.

Me, a ripple of kayak and a elegant back of dolphin were only moving things.

This movie was taken on the Columbia River on 2nd May 2012, for The Kennewick-Man Expedition. A whole route map of this day can see in the map below.

It was a strong wind along the river from downstream as west. As a zigzag track in the map below, sailing downstream against powerful head wind was very difficult, and I could only just move back and forth in the width direction of river, could not move downstream, for some time after start. I was almost given up kayaking in this day twice.

強い川下からの風が、川に沿って吹き荒れていました。その強烈な向かい風に逆らって下流に帆走することはとても難しく、地図上のジグザグした軌跡から見て取れるように、出発後しばらくは川を下ることができずに川幅方向を行ったり来たりするのが精一杯でした。二度、この日川を下ることを諦めかけました。

Return to Japan

With tons of gear separated into four bags, Dave (who is a nice neighborhood friend of Mario and  me) to the Seattle-Tacoma airport before dawn. Thanks :) The flight to Japan was smooth.

四つのバックに分けた大量の道具を抱えて、滞在中しているマリオ家のご近所さんであるデイブの車で、夜明け前の高速をシアトル・タコマ空港へと向かった。順調に飛行機は飛び、成田に到着。

Finished the Washington Illinois Motorcycle Tour

Yesterday night, I returned to Mario's house, Montesano WA. So, the Washington Illinois Motorcycle Tour has finished.

A total driving distance was 5,937 miles (9,555 km). And I run in 12 states (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Colorado, Utah, and Nevada).

A motorcycle was a nice method to know the United State.

I could know by direct experience of my skin, that, what the United States is huge, a considerable difference of landscape between Japan and United States, and how to live in this massive land. And these have made me think about a deep and complex relations between the countries.

I have come to more like the North America :)

But I still just have stepped on twelve states among fifty. I still don't know a east coast and southern states. I should know those also.

During this tour, I worn underwears of LDComfort. It was a something like that, I got a new physically strong skin of myself. I think It comes from the special function of those which controls a skin moisture to the best.

Stay in Arlene Burns's House

Tonight I am re-visiting Arlene Burns in Mosier, Oregon. I met her in a coffee shop there at 9th May when I kayaked down the Colombia River. And she gave me a wonderful stay in her house 3 nights and 4 days. Thanks for it, I could re-arrange my gears.

She so loves outdoor sports and Japanese culture :)

I am in the Timberline Lodge, a beautiful wooden architecture, altitude 5,900 ft (1,800m), at the base of Mt. Hood. And also Mt. Hood is a beautiful snow caped mountain. We can ski even in summer.

I had a nice opportunity to visit a Pasco City Council, invited by my friend, Matt Watkins. And then, I stayed his house and really enjoyed a nice night, again :)

I am in Boise, Idaho. This landscape has made poet Keiziro Suga.

アイダホの州都ボイゾで、モーニング珈琲を楽しんでいる。この街で、管啓次郎の血や肉や魂の一部が造られたのだという。標高820メートルの乾燥した照りつける太陽と、スネーク川が生み出す、豊かな大地。

この川をカヌーで下っていけば、やがてケネウィック市に辿り着き、数ヶ月前に旅したばかりのコロンビア川に再び入れるのだと思うと、北米という大地の広大さに驚き心踊る。

This morning, small rain hit my tent. But, at high noon, any evidence of rain was disappeared. A land here is so dry. I have been amazed that such tiny rains gather and then make the Colorado River. Come to think of it, I heard that the water of the Colorado River disappears in Mexico.

And then, I pass through the summit of the elevation of 11,158 ft in Colorado, on the route I70. The canyon was magnificence...

By the way... I want to mention what I realize in this trip.

U.S.A. has a lot of nuclear power plants along rivers.

The Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant in Japan ejected an estimated 3,000,000,000,000,000 - 5,000,000,000,000,000 Bq of radioactive cesium into the ocean. And then it has spread in three-dimensional.

If some nuclear power plant along a river in U.S.A. is damaged in the same way as the Fukushima, around 5,000,000,000,000,000 Bq of radioactive cesium will be ejected into the river, which has a big cities, and then it will be spread in almost one-dimensional. We can easily imagine what will happen.

New Machine for Return Journey

Hi guys!

I have been totally attracted new machine, the tractor. So, I am gonna change from the-motorcycle-on-paved-road to the-tractor-on-wasteland, on a return journey from Illinois to Washington. Sorry Mario for your BMW :)

トラクターを初めて運転する機会に恵まれた！大地に凹凸があろうが、土がスポンジのように柔らかろうが、背の高い草に覆われていようが、トラクターは足を取られることなくグングンと力強く進んで行く。後部に取り付けた土をすき起こすローターを地面に降ろして、雑草の海に突入すれば、ガシガシガシと土煙をあげながら根元から雑草を刈り散らしていく。12段変速ギアの荒地を進むモンスターマシーン。

夕陽に赤く染まる草原をトラクターに乗って、ゆっくりと力強く進む。とても楽しくて、自然と笑みがこぼれる。農家の人の気持ちにさらに近づけた気がして、それも嬉しいのであった。

BMW R850R has been Fixed

The motorcycle has been fixed today in just 24 hours, thanks for LDComfort who made an arrangement for send the new starter motor from Washington to Iowa by air, for BMW motorcycle dealer guys in Omaha and other guys supporting me. The starter motor has been replaced to new one.

I am going to ride heading to cousin's house in Illinois day after tomorrow, last 400 miles in one day.

Fixing Motorcycle

Suddenly I have not been able to start the engine of motorcycle again. But I am lucky that it happened just in front of Mark's house who is my cousin's friend.

And now, thanks for supports from a lot of friends, I have taken the motorcycle to BMW Motorcycle dealer. Mario posted my problem in motorcycle forums to find out somebody who can help me and information, and contacted and dealt with the BMW Motorcycle dealers for making progressive better. Mark took the motorcycle to the dealer with his track, and give me a bed room in his house until finishing the motorcycle fixing. And P.J. Hartman gave me local information.

Motorcycle might have a some problem on starting motor, and might need more than few days to fix it.
